My main problem is that they didn’t make sense. To a lesser extent, Hue was very similar. My problem isn’t just that there are too many mechanics – this in itself is absolutely forgivable. Stepping on a spring launches you to another spring, and from there the answer is pretty obvious. I saw the paths with the glow in the dark paint and knew I had to find the correct path to get to the chest. I saw the colored cubes with different symbols on each side and knew I had to find the correct sequence. I know my criticism of the mechanics seems like I would hate this level – namely that there are too many mechanics for the game’s own good – but these are all well executed. Each chest is opened in a different way – one you solve a maze, one you figure out a sequence, and one you use springs to jump onto a shelf. I don’t want to dwell too much because I did really like this level, but yeah, that’s how you do it.Īnyway, arriving in the mirror world, you have to collect three keys by opening little chests.

Interacting with a red cube allows you to interact with the memory, which allows you to enter the mirror world into a child’s paradise full of toys and games. The first level I did was the Childhood Memory, which sets you in an empty bedroom. Once you get to the hub world, the levels are broken into three sets of four, each set being of increasing difficulty. One I thought was fun and understandable, and the other that felt like it was. I’m going to highlight two very early levels to talk about the differences in mechanics. But for other levels it just seems random, like they designed the level assets and the puzzles without solutions in mind and just smashed the two together to force an answer into existence.

For a lot of levels this isn’t that difficult, the solutions are simple and intuitive. Every single level feels as if it has a whole new and unique set of mechanics that you have to learn as soon as you see them, because there is no adjustment period. I sat here for several minutes trying to figure out the core mechanics of the game and I really don’t think I can. interesting? I’m going with ‘interesting’ because I don’t want to be negative right out of the gate. I’ll talk about this later, but I wasn’t sure where to put this part. So, how easy is it to explore a digital soul? You explore memories, solve puzzles, touch blue ducks, and interact with some spooky stuff. You go between different environments, each broken into a unique memory, with the hub of a Soul Town.
